Lilian Owusu's Remarriage Sparks Controversy on Social Media
The remarriage of Lilian Owusu, widow of the late Dr. John Kumah, has ignited a heated debate on social media. Dr. Kumah, a former Deputy Minister of Finance and MP for Ejisu, passed away on March 7, 2024, at the age of 45. Approximately 18 months later, Owusu, now known as Apostle Lilian Aryeequaye, has taken the step to remarry, prompting mixed reactions from the public. While some criticize her for remarrying too soon, others defend her right to seek happiness, arguing that widowhood should not equate to a lifetime of loneliness. The situation has also raised questions about cultural practices regarding widowhood, particularly the customary one-year mourning period observed in Akan tradition before a widow can remarry. This incident reflects broader societal expectations and attitudes towards marriage and widowhood in Ghana.
