The 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme Secretariat has announced an extension of the deadline for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the Legon Pharmaceutical Innovation Park (LePIP). Interested pharmaceutical manufacturers and businesses now have until October 31, 2026, to submit their applications to establish operations within the specialized industrial zone located in the Greater Accra Region. This extension is intended to provide eligible companies with additional time to finalize their proposals for participation in the project.
LePIP is designed as a central hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing, research, and logistics. By creating a dedicated industrial space, the government aims to significantly bolster domestic production of medicines and reduce Ghana's long-standing reliance on imported pharmaceutical products. The project is a key component of the broader industrialization strategy to position the country as a leading pharmaceutical exporter within the West African sub-region.
The economic impact of the park is expected to be substantial, particularly regarding job creation. In its initial phase, the LePIP project is projected to generate more than 3,000 direct jobs, with further employment opportunities anticipated as the facility expands in future phases. This initiative aligns with the 24-Hour Economy policy by encouraging continuous industrial activity and maximizing the productive capacity of the manufacturing sector.
Following the revised deadline, the Secretariat will proceed with the evaluation of submissions to select partners who meet the technical and financial requirements. This industrial park represents a strategic investment in Ghana's healthcare security and economic resilience, aimed at ensuring a steady supply of locally manufactured essential medicines while creating a sustainable ecosystem for scientific innovation and professional development.
