Abena Kyei Boakye Lands Brand Deal as Efia Odo and Kojo Black Drive Social and Musical Change

The Ghanaian entertainment landscape is witnessing a surge of activity ranging from major brand endorsements to vocal social activism. Television personality Abena Kyei Boakye has been unveiled as the brand ambassador for Glow Washing Powder, a move attributed to her consistent, scandal-free public image. This partnership, announced at a ceremony in Labone attended by government officials, aims to boost the visibility of the Ghanaian-owned Glow Soaps & Detergents brand. Meanwhile, highlife musician Kojo Black is championing the preservation of authentic Ghanaian culture with his new single, "Love." Produced by Dikoder Beatz, the track seeks to blend traditional highlife rhythms with contemporary sounds to ensure the genre remains relevant to modern audiences and continues to evolve without losing its core characteristics.

Social media influencers are also increasingly using their platforms to address national concerns and influence the youth. Efia Odo has publicly asserted her independence from any political party, specifically refuting claims of supporting the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Odo emphasized that her recent activism—particularly her vocal opposition to illegal mining (galamsey) and calls for better governance—is rooted in a commitment to truth rather than partisan politics. In a similar vein of social responsibility, influencer Adwoa Tee has called on Ghanaian youth to stop betting, urging them to redirect their energy toward more sustainable and meaningful pursuits. Her message has sparked a national conversation about the intersection of youth unemployment and the rise of the betting industry.

On the regional front, Nigerian music stars are making headlines for both their personal lives and public feuds. Popular singer Ruger recently shared his preference for low-key romantic dates, expressing that he values private quality time and conversation at home over extravagant public outings as a way to show affection. Conversely, the atmosphere is more tense between Speed Darlington and Burna Boy. Darlington has publicly threatened physical confrontation with the Afro-fusion star, stemming from ongoing legal disputes and previous allegations of defamation involving Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. The musician expressed a desire to settle their differences in a boxing ring, adding another layer to the complex rivalry that is currently playing out in both the courts and the court of public opinion.

Beyond the continent, the international pageant world is facing significant legal scrutiny. Dr. Gabrielle Henry, a former Miss Jamaica contestant, has filed a lawsuit against the Miss Universe Organisation and its parent companies, JKN Legacy Inc. and Legacy Holding Group USA, following a severe stage fall during the 2025 pageant in Thailand. The fall allegedly resulted in a brain bleed and other serious injuries, leading to five specific grievances filed in court. This legal battle highlights growing concerns over contestant safety and corporate responsibility within global entertainment franchises, ensuring that the coming months will be defined by both creative output and critical accountability within the industry.
