Adwinsa Publications Ghana Limited and the Ghana Library Authority have partnered to promote the concept of literary tourism during the landmark 10th anniversary of the Pa Gya! Literary Festival. Through a specialized session titled "Tour on Pages with AMA Ghana," the organizers sought to demonstrate the profound connection between the written word and the physical landscape of Ghana's historical and cultural heritage. The initiative aims to transform the reading experience from a solitary activity into a catalyst for national exploration and discovery among students and the youth.
The session featured a vibrant exchange between students, educators, and literature enthusiasts, focusing on how local literature can serve as an informal guide to the country’s diverse tourism sites. Key speakers, including Dr. Nii Ayi Solomon and Nana Akua Asante, highlighted the dual role of books in providing education and fostering a sense of national identity. They noted that literature often captures the essence of a place more deeply than a standard travel guide, making it a powerful tool for encouraging Ghanaians to visit and appreciate their own cultural landmarks while fostering a deeper pride in their heritage.
By integrating reading with the promotion of domestic tourism, the festival organizers hope to make literature more accessible and relevant to the contemporary lives of young Ghanaians. This approach not only supports the local publishing industry but also contributes to the broader objective of cultural preservation. As the Pa Gya! Literary Festival marks its tenth year, the focus on literary tourism signals a shift toward multidisciplinary cultural advocacy, where reading becomes the foundation for a deeper engagement with the nation’s history and identity.
