Black Maidens secure 3-3 draw against Brazil in U-17 World Cup

Ghana’s U-17 women’s national team, the Black Maidens, kept their tournament hopes alive following a thrilling 3-3 draw against Brazil in their second Group C match. In a display of resilience, the team fought back from behind twice to secure their first point of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. The result provides a necessary boost for the squad following an opening-day 3-0 loss to Norway, ensuring they remain in contention for the knockout stages. Midfielder Jessica Appiah Asamoah was named Player of the Match for her influential performance in the heart of the pitch. Asamoah was central to Ghana’s offensive play, creating four clear-cut chances and completing three successful dribbles. She capped her performance with a vital assist in the 85th minute, which allowed Priscilla Mensah to score the equalizing goal. Earlier goals from Rafia Osman and Gloria Ameaa had kept the Maidens within reach of the South Americans throughout the high-scoring encounter. Head Coach Joe Nana Adarkwa expressed immense pride in the team’s fighting spirit, comparing his players to the legendary Brazilian style of football. Adarkwa remarked that the team showed they are the "Brazilians of Africa" by matching their opponents' technical skill and intensity. Despite the positive result, the coach emphasized the importance of tightening the defense after conceding three goals, noting that tactical improvements are necessary for their final group stage challenge. Ghana now prepares for a high-stakes final group game against Canada, where a victory is required to advance to the next round. With one point from two matches, the Black Maidens must secure all three points to guarantee their progression. The technical team is expected to build on the offensive momentum and resilience shown during the comeback as they seek to navigate out of a competitive Group C.
