The Akatsi College of Education (Akatsico) has formalised a strategic partnership with the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG) to enhance academic standards and foster international cooperation. This collaboration, solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), focuses on joint research initiatives, academic exchanges, and professional development for both students and faculty. The partnership represents a significant step in Akatsico’s broader mission to integrate global educational standards into its institutional framework and enhance the quality of teacher training.
Key components of the agreement include the development of an integrated e-learning platform designed to facilitate remote collaboration and resource sharing between the two institutions. This digital infrastructure is expected to support faculty exchanges and joint research projects, allowing scholars from Ghana and the United States to work together on educational challenges and innovations. Officials from Akatsico emphasized that these practical steps are essential for the long-term success of the collaboration and will provide faculty with exposure to international best practices.
Looking ahead, the partnership has established a clear timeline for implementation. A hybrid conference is scheduled for 17 October 2026, which will serve as a platform for academic discussions and the presentation of initial research findings. Furthermore, the first student and faculty cohort from the University of North Carolina Greensboro is expected to visit the Akatsico campus in November 2027. This exchange program aims to provide participants with cross-cultural perspectives and hands-on experience in different educational environments.
This collaboration is a central pillar of Akatsico’s strategic development plan, which prioritises national and international partnerships as a means of driving educational advancement. By aligning with a reputable international institution like UNCG, Akatsico aims to create new opportunities for its academic community while contributing to the global discourse on teacher education. The college remains committed to maintaining the momentum of this partnership to ensure sustainable benefits for its students and the wider educational sector.
