Former President Akufo-Addo Acts as Father of the Bride at Bozoma Saint John’s Traditional Wedding in Accra

Former President Nana Akufo-Addo took on a significant and sentimental role this week, serving as the "Father of the Bride" during the traditional wedding of international marketing icon and reality TV star Bozoma Saint John. The ceremony, which celebrated the union between Saint John and her partner Keely Watson, was held at the former President’s private residence in Accra. The event captured significant public attention as it blended Ghanaian traditional customs with the high-profile glamour associated with the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star.

The former President’s involvement was more than just a ceremonial appearance; he stepped in to fill a vital family role because Bozoma Saint John’s biological father was unable to attend the festivities. By hosting the event at his home and acting as the primary paternal figure, Akufo-Addo underscored his close personal ties to the bride and her family. Saint John, a Ghanaian-American who has held top executive positions at global giants like Apple, Uber, and Netflix, has long been a prominent ambassador for Ghanaian culture on the world stage. The former President’s gesture highlights the high esteem in which she is held in her home country.

The traditional wedding showcased rich Ghanaian heritage, featuring vibrant kente cloth and the customary rites that signify the formal joining of two families. Footage and images from the event quickly circulated on social media, showing the former President actively participating in the rituals alongside the couple and their guests. This high-profile celebration comes at a time when Ghana continues to position itself as a hub for the global African diaspora. Saint John has been one of the most visible figures in the "Year of Return" and "Beyond the Return" initiatives, movements that were heavily championed during Akufo-Addo’s tenure as President to foster deeper connections between Ghana and its diaspora.
