Antoine Semenyo Completes £65 Million Move to Manchester City After Thrilling Farewell with Bournemouth

Antoine Semenyo to miss eight weeks for Manchester City with knee injury

Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo is expected to be sidelined for up to eight weeks following a knee injury sustained during a recent Premier League clash against Ipswich Town. The diagnosis was confirmed by manager Enzo Maresca, who provided an update on the Ghanaian international’s condition following a series of medical evaluations. While the layoff is significant, the club has expressed some relief that the injury was not as devastating as initially suspected. Maresca indicated that the initial fears regarding the severity of the injury were alleviated after the results of a medical scan were reviewed by the club's medical team. "The scan revealed it is not as serious as we first anticipated," the manager noted, though he acknowledged that the two-month recovery period remains a necessary timeframe for the player to regain full fitness and avoid any long-term complications. Semenyo has been an impactful figure in the City squad, and his absence will be felt as the team enters a critical phase of the domestic season. The manager also touched upon the broader health of the squad during the update, mentioning that star striker Erling Haaland is facing his own fitness battle after limping off with a foot injury. However, the outlook for Haaland appears more positive than for Semenyo, with the manager suggesting that the Norwegian forward might be fit in time for the upcoming Champions League encounter against AEK Athens. The contrasting timelines for the two players highlight the physical toll of the current campaign on the Manchester City roster. For Semenyo, the focus now shifts to a structured rehabilitation process. Missing eight weeks of action means he will be unavailable for several key Premier League fixtures and continental matches. The coaching staff will likely look to internal depth to cover the gap on the wings while the medical team monitors his progress. The club expects a full recovery, aiming to have the winger back in contention for selection within the two-month window, provided his rehabilitation proceeds without further setbacks.
