Asanko Gold Ghana Limited, in a strategic partnership with the Amansie West District Health Directorate, has concluded a two-day capacity-building training program for 40 health professionals within the Ashanti Region. The initiative, which is a key component of the mining company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, was specifically designed to enhance the clinical skills and service delivery capabilities of midwives and physician assistants operating in the Amansie West and Amansie South districts.
During the workshop, District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr. Prince Manu Morris underscored the critical role of continuous education in the medical field. He emphasized that ongoing professional development is essential for healthcare workers to remain effective and encouraged participants to actively apply their newly acquired knowledge to improve patient care within their respective facilities. The DCE noted that such private-sector interventions are vital complements to government efforts in strengthening rural health infrastructure.
The training was led by Dr. Abenaa Yawson, who served as the lead facilitator. She highlighted the rapidly evolving nature of medical science and technology, stressing the necessity for healthcare providers to adapt to modern practices. By updating their technical expertise, Dr. Yawson explained, these professionals would be better equipped to meet the diverse and changing health challenges faced by residents in these mining-impacted communities.
This collaborative effort reflects a broader commitment to sustainable community development through health system strengthening. By focusing on frontline workers like midwives and physician assistants, Asanko Gold Ghana and the local health directorate aim to reduce maternal mortality and improve general primary healthcare outcomes across the Amansie enclave. The program sets a precedent for how corporate entities can partner with local government agencies to address critical gaps in essential social services.
