Nigerian entertainer Olubankole "Banky W" Wellington has announced his official ordination as a pastor in the United States. The multifaceted artist, known for his significant contributions to the Nigerian music and film industries, now serves as an Associate Pastor and Global Ambassador at Union Church, a non-denominational Christian organization with several campuses. This transition marks a significant spiritual milestone for the artist, who relocated to the United States approximately two years ago.
The decision to enter formal ministry follows a period of personal reflection after Wellington's unsuccessful bid for a seat in Nigeria's House of Representatives during the 2023 general elections. He revealed that the disappointment of the election loss was a catalyst for his spiritual journey, leading him to seek divine guidance for the next phase of his life. In addition to his pastoral duties at Union Church, Wellington has also taken on an educational role, teaching at Union College.
Despite his new responsibilities within the church, Wellington has assured his audience that he is not abandoning his creative and professional pursuits. He intends to continue his work in the music and film sectors, as well as his various business ventures. Wellington expressed his belief that his life’s direction is broad enough to encompass both his spiritual calling and his established career in the entertainment industry. This balanced approach highlights a growing trend among public figures who integrate their faith with their professional public personas.
