The Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Beatrice Owusu, has mobilized significant support for students involved in the sexual abuse allegations at Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS). Owusu has arranged for both legal aid and psychological counseling to assist the victims as they navigate the aftermath of the alleged misconduct by the school's interdicted headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai. The intervention is designed to ensure that the victims receive professional guidance to cope with their trauma while pursuing a legal resolution to the case.
Providing further details during a breast cancer screening event, Owusu revealed that at least 19 individuals have been identified as being affected by the situation. The Women’s Organiser confirmed that she has already engaged directly with five of the victims, emphasizing the gravity of the allegations. Her efforts are focused on providing a safe space for these individuals to come forward and ensuring that the legal process is followed rigorously to hold the perpetrator accountable.
In a call for national solidarity, Owusu urged the public to set aside political differences and focus on the protection of students and the delivery of justice. She stated that the issue of sexual misconduct in schools is a social crisis that requires a unified response from all sectors of society. By providing these essential services, Owusu highlights the need for stronger institutional safeguards and a culture of accountability to prevent future occurrences of abuse within Ghana’s educational system.
