On July 27, 2026, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, the Member of Parliament for Ho West, launched a comprehensive healthcare intervention aimed at transforming medical services within his constituency. The dual-pronged initiative includes the donation of two fully equipped ambulances to the Ghana National Ambulance Service and the commencement of a five-day free medical outreach. These efforts are designed to bridge critical gaps in emergency response and specialist care, targeting approximately 15,000 residents from the district and neighboring communities.
The free medical outreach is a significant collaborative effort involving over 170 volunteer medical specialists from the United States and Canada. The program is being executed in two phases at the Awudome-Tsito and Dzolo Gborgame Health Centres, offering services ranging from general consultations to specialized surgeries. Volta Regional Minister James Gunu praised the initiative, emphasizing that the presence of such a large team of international experts provides a vital boost to the local healthcare delivery system and offers life-changing interventions for vulnerable populations.
To address the district's emergency transport challenges, Mr. Bedzrah handed over two new ambulances to replace non-functional units that had previously stalled local emergency services. Mr. George Kojo Owusu, the Volta Regional Director of the National Ambulance Service, acknowledged the donation as a timely intervention that will drastically improve response times in rural areas. During the handover, the MP underscored the importance of vehicle maintenance, urging the service to manage the equipment professionally to ensure long-term reliability for the constituents.
Beyond immediate clinical care, the MP outlined a broader strategy to modernize the district's health infrastructure. This includes plans to provide laptops to health facilities to digitize medical records management and the ongoing renovation of the Tsibu Health Facility. Mr. Bedzrah also noted the development of new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds to expand primary healthcare access. Residents have been encouraged to take ownership of these resources and use emergency contact numbers responsibly to sustain the improvements in the local health sector.
