The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) has presented a donation of fuel coupons and cash to the Ministry of Local Government to support the evacuation of waste from the Agbogbloshie landfill site. This contribution is aimed at facilitating the logistics of transporting accumulated waste from the site in Accra to the Adepa Waste Engineered Landfill Site. The initiative forms part of a collaborative effort to improve urban sanitation and address long-standing environmental concerns at one of the capital's primary waste collection points.
Led by CEO Dr. Riverson Oppong, the COMAC delegation detailed specific contributions from several member companies. Rash Oil provided fuel coupons valued at GH‵100,000, while JP Trustees contributed GH‵50,000. In addition to these cash-equivalent supports, Petrosol Platinum donated GH‵20,000 worth of diesel, and CAB Energy provided 500 litres of diesel. These resources are intended to power the heavy machinery and transport vehicles required for the large-scale waste removal operation.
During the presentation to the Minister for Local Government, Dr. Oppong emphasized the importance of the sanitation exercise to the health and well-being of the local community. He noted that the chamber remains committed to supporting government initiatives that improve the lives of Ghanaians and pledged that COMAC would continue to provide updates and further contributions to the ministry as the project progresses.
The evacuation of the Agbogbloshie landfill site represents a critical step in the government's broader sanitation strategy. By moving waste to the Adepa Waste Engineered Landfill Site, the ministry aims to utilize more modern, environmentally secure disposal methods. This partnership between the state and the private oil marketing sector highlights the role of corporate social responsibility in addressing public infrastructure and sanitation challenges.
