The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a public notice regarding planned power outages scheduled for parts of the Eastern and Central regions on October 20 and 21, 2026. The power distributor explained that these temporary service interruptions are essential to facilitate critical maintenance work aimed at enhancing the reliability of the regional power grids. By conducting these technical operations, the company seeks to address potential system weaknesses and ensure a more stable electricity supply for residents and commercial entities in the long term.
The maintenance schedule will affect several specific communities, with outages expected to last from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day. In the Central Region, the Moree Township is listed among the high-priority areas that will face temporary power cuts. Meanwhile, in the Eastern Region, the service interruption will impact residents of Shematare and Apeu-Wawase. ECG has provided these specific timeframes to allow customers to plan their daily activities and mitigate the impact on productivity and domestic comfort during the maintenance window.
While the company has apologized for the inconvenience these interruptions may cause, it emphasized that the works are unavoidable for the continued health of the distribution infrastructure. Customers in the affected districts are advised to disconnect sensitive electronic equipment to prevent potential damage when power is eventually restored. The ECG also reiterated its commitment to completing the maintenance within the stipulated time frame to minimize the duration of the blackout and return service to normalcy across the impacted regions.
