ECG works to restore power in Ashanti Region after high-tension pole fire

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has deployed technical teams to address a significant power outage currently affecting several communities within the Ashanti Region. The disruption follows a fire incident that severely damaged a critical high-tension pole located at Sokoban Ampeyoo, cutting off the electricity supply to both residential and commercial consumers in the vicinity.

The outage, which occurred on Saturday, October 10, 2026, has primarily impacted four major areas: Sokoban, Ampeyoo, Asaago, and Apaaso. Upon identifying the source of the failure, ECG engineers were immediately dispatched to the site to begin emergency repairs. The company noted that the fire damage to the high-voltage infrastructure required a thorough assessment before safe restoration efforts could proceed, as the integrity of the transmission line was compromised by the blaze.

In a statement regarding the incident, the utility provider offered a formal apology to the affected customers for the inconvenience caused by the sudden blackout. While an official cause for the fire has not yet been established, the company emphasized that its personnel are working diligently to replace the damaged pole and stabilize the local grid. Residents in the affected communities have been urged to remain patient while the technical teams complete the necessary work to ensure a safe and steady return of power to the area.
