Ecobank Ghana PLC has officially commissioned a refurbished digital learning center at the 4 Garrison Education Center in Kumasi. The initiative, launched to mark Ecobank Day and the bank's 40th anniversary of operations in Africa, aims to bridge the digital divide by providing students with access to modern technological resources. Under the theme "Building Tomorrow’s Skills Today," the project underscores the bank's commitment to fostering digital literacy among Ghanaian youth.
The newly commissioned facility is equipped with 26 modern computers and ergonomic furniture, designed to create a conducive environment for practical learning. The center is intended to serve as a hub for training in advanced digital disciplines, including coding, robotics, web development, animation, and artificial intelligence. By integrating these subjects into the curriculum, the initiative seeks to prepare pupils for the evolving demands of the global job market and future careers in technology and innovation.
Speaking at the event, the Education Director at the center, Lt. Col. Niminga-Baka, commended Ecobank for its investment in the school. He emphasized that the initiative plays a crucial role in national development by exposing students to emerging technologies at an early age. Local education authorities also urged the school community to maintain and utilize the facility effectively, ensuring it remains a transformative resource for current and future learners.
This project is part of a wider corporate social responsibility strategy by Ecobank, which has refurbished 66 IT laboratories across Africa over the past three years, benefiting more than 46,000 young people. The bank's ongoing efforts reflect a pan-African vision to empower the next generation with essential technological knowledge, ensuring that African students remain competitive in an increasingly digital world.
