The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) has entered a significant era of transition following its 12th General Assembly held in Ho. During the assembly, delegates elected Rev. Prof. Frederick Mawusi Amevenku as the 15th Moderator of the General Assembly. Currently serving as the President of Trinity Theological Seminary, Rev. Prof. Amevenku secured a decisive victory with 111 votes, representing 72.55% of the total cast. He is set to officially assume office on January 1, 2027, taking over the mantle from the outgoing Moderator, Right Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Bliss Divine Kofi Agbeko (Rtd.).
Rev. Prof. Amevenku brings an extensive academic and pastoral background to the role, with a specialized focus on New Testament Studies. His leadership is expected to prioritize deepening evangelism and strengthening the church's connection with younger generations of worshippers. A key pillar of his vision includes the promotion of mother-tongue theology and cultural engagement in biblical interpretation, ensuring the church remains relevant in a rapidly changing social landscape. His election marks a strategic shift toward intellectual and missionary expansion within the EPCG.
In tandem with the leadership change, the EPCG is expanding its media footprint through the establishment of "Bremen Radio." The outgoing Moderator, Right Rev. Dr. Agbeko, announced that the church has successfully secured a radio frequency for the station. This initiative is designed to leverage modern communication technologies to reach communities beyond physical church buildings and educate the public on the Christian faith. To support this digital expansion, the church is developing an "Online Worship, Digital Communication, and Social Media Policy" to ensure responsible digital engagement and protect the church’s doctrinal integrity.
This religious activity in the Volta Region coincides with a broader leadership shift across denominations. Recently, the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, congratulated Reverend Canon Selin Selorm Mereku on his consecration as Coadjutor Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ho. Minister Gunu emphasized the critical role religious institutions play in regional development and infrastructure projects. These transitions within the EPCG and the Anglican Diocese reflect a period of renewal for spiritual leadership in the region, focusing on a collaborative approach between the church, state, and community to foster peace and socio-economic growth.
