The Ghana Export and Import Bank (GEXIM) Ladies and Men Associations have presented medical equipment valued at approximately GH₵200,000 to the Paediatric Oncology Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The donation was made to commemorate the associations' 10th anniversary and is intended to bolster the unit's capacity to provide specialized care to children battling cancer. This contribution marks a significant milestone for the staff groups as they seek to support healthcare delivery in Ghana's premier teaching hospital.
The items donated include essential clinical tools such as patient monitors and defibrillators, which are critical for tracking vital signs and responding to emergencies in pediatric patients. During the presentation, Dr. Abena Asomaning, representing the GEXIM associations, emphasized the bank's commitment to corporate social responsibility. She noted that the associations chose to celebrate their decade of existence by addressing the practical needs of the hospital, ensuring that their anniversary leaves a tangible benefit for vulnerable children.
Principal Nursing Officer Lawrencia Akweley Turkson, who received the items on behalf of the hospital, expressed gratitude for the intervention, highlighting the persistent high demand for pediatric oncology services in the region. She explained that the unit continuously requires modern equipment to maintain high standards of care. Ms. Turkson also drew attention to the "100 by 100" project, a new initiative aimed at improving the department’s infrastructure through community and corporate contributions, and encouraged other organizations to partner with the hospital in similar ways.
