The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has expressed pride in referee Daniel Laryea following his officiating of the AFCON 2025 semi-final match between Morocco and Nigeria. GFA President Kurt Okraku commended Laryea's selection by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), viewing it as a recognition of his skill, professionalism, and bravery. Okraku emphasized that Laryea's appointment reflects a strong vote of confidence from CAF in his abilities.
Despite the accolades from the GFA and CAF officials, Laryea's performance faced significant criticism, particularly from Nigerian fans who alleged bias and poor judgment during the match, which ended in a penalty shootout loss for Nigeria. The backlash was amplified on social media, where fans expressed their frustrations, underscoring the intense rivalries that often accompany such high-stakes matches.
