The Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) has announced a strategic initiative to commercialise pentane and isopentane extracted from its gas processing operations by the end of 2026. This development marks a significant shift in the company's operational focus, aiming to transform what were previously considered by-products into valuable export commodities. By capturing these hydrocarbons, the company intends to reduce gas flaring and create a new, sustainable revenue stream for the state-owned enterprise. Chief Executive Officer Judith Adjobah Blay disclosed that comprehensive studies have already confirmed the economic and commercial viability of the project. The extraction process will involve the use of advanced technology to capture and store the gases at the processing site before transporting them to the Takoradi Port. From there, the pentane and isopentane will be loaded for export to international markets. This logistical framework is designed to integrate seamlessly with existing gas infrastructure while expanding the company’s footprint in the global energy market. The project is also a central component of Ghana Gas’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable resource management. To support this, the company has established a dedicated Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) department to monitor and mitigate the environmental impact of its activities. By repurposing gases that might otherwise be flared into the atmosphere, the company is aligning its operations with broader national climate goals, ensuring the responsible exploitation of Ghana's petroleum resources for long-term economic growth.
