Ghana’s Modernisation Drive: KNUST Innovations, Court Automation, and Youth Empowerment Shape National Outlook

Ghana is witnessing a concerted effort to modernise its institutional frameworks and empower the next generation, with academic, judicial, and religious leaders calling for innovation and discipline. At the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Senior Lecturer Dr. Eli A. Gaveh has urged the youth to leverage agriculture as a primary catalyst for economic growth. Speaking at the Ghana Cocoa Innovations Hackathon 2026, Dr. Gaveh highlighted a critical demographic challenge, noting that the average age of Ghanaian farmers is currently 60. He stressed that the nation’s economic stability depends on younger generations embracing the cocoa sector through technology-driven solutions, such as the farm rehabilitation proposals showcased by student groups during the event.

This drive for youth empowerment was further echoed at the Obuasi Senior High Technical School during the Fire 4 Future Conference 2026. The event, convened by Mr. Richmond Ayi d’Almeida and sponsored by Dr. Francis Kwame Ghunney, brought together hundreds of students to focus on resilience and personal growth. Dr. Ghunney emphasised that discipline and integrity are the essential foundations for securing Ghana’s future, encouraging students to recognise that their potential is an internal force to be ignited. The conference blended practical life lessons with motivational sessions, reinforcing the vital role of secondary education in shaping a more resilient and principled workforce.

Parallel to these educational initiatives, Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has announced a landmark shift in the country’s legal landscape with the commencement of a nationwide court automation drive. Beginning October 1, 2026, the Judiciary will transition to electronic filing, authentication, and service of court processes, starting with the Supreme Court. This initiative aims to remove systemic barriers and align the Ghanaian justice system with 21st-century standards, ensuring that legal delivery is more accessible and efficient. The Chief Justice described this move as a significant institutional transformation designed to enhance the speed and reliability of the justice delivery system.

Underpinning these structural and academic changes is a renewed call for moral and ethical leadership within the community. During a recent service at the Anglican Diocese of Tema, Bishop Rt Rev. Dr George Kotei Neequaye ordained ten new clergy members, urging them to lead lives of humility and sacrificial service. Rev. Canon Eric Kwaku Agba reminded the newly ordained priests and deacons that their roles are a commitment to serve the community rather than a position of personal privilege. Collectively, these developments in education, agriculture, and the judiciary signal a broader national movement toward a more modern, disciplined, and service-oriented Ghana.
