In a recent visit to Makola Market on December 23, 2025, Ghana's Minister of Trade, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, called on traders to reduce prices in light of positive economic indicators, including declining inflation rates and a strengthening cedi. The Minister's appeal aims to ensure that consumers can enjoy the benefits of the government's economic measures, which have fostered increased consumer confidence and stimulated trading activity during the festive season. Ofosu-Adjare emphasized that these price reductions are crucial for allowing consumers to fully capitalize on the economic improvements. Additionally, the Ghana Union of Traders Association has expressed concerns regarding the growing presence of foreign traders in the market, urging for a review of existing regulations to protect local businesses.
