The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has officially committed to providing legal representation and welfare support for Salomey Awiti Baffoe, a nurse currently facing criminal charges. The decision was announced by the association's leadership following a visit to Baffoe in the Bono Region. This commitment comes as Baffoe navigates legal proceedings related to her alleged involvement in the publication of false news, a situation widely referred to as the "Ghana Jollof" case.
Nurse Baffoe has been charged with abetment of crime in connection with the publication of false information. Despite these allegations, the GRNMA has made it clear that they will stand by their member throughout the judicial process. National President Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo emphasized that the association has already assigned legal representatives to assist Baffoe. This intervention is intended to ensure that the nurse receives a fair trial and that her rights are protected as the case moves forward.
A significant factor in the association's decision to provide support is the nature of the charges. President Ofori-Ampofo noted that the legal case does not stem from Baffoe's professional conduct or duties as a healthcare provider. However, the GRNMA maintains a policy of supporting its members' welfare. The association's leadership reaffirmed that they would continue to monitor the situation closely, offering both professional and moral support until the unproven allegations are resolved in court.
