Alhaji Karim Gruzah, the outspoken founder and bankroller of King Faisal FC, has called on the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Simeon-Okraku, to step down from his position. The veteran football administrator’s demand comes amid growing concerns over the state of Ghanaian football, both on the domestic front and the international stage. Gruzah’s public appeal marks a significant moment of internal criticism from one of the most experienced voices in the country’s football landscape.
In his critique, Gruzah pointed to a perceived lack of tangible progress during Okraku’s eight-year leadership period. He specifically cited the ongoing struggles within the domestic league, which many observers believe has declined in competitiveness and visibility. Furthermore, the King Faisal owner highlighted the national teams' failure to secure major silverware under the current administration as a primary reason for his lack of confidence in the GFA's current leadership direction.
Despite his call for Okraku’s departure, Gruzah expressed confidence that the GFA has the internal capacity to manage a leadership transition. He stated that there are numerous individuals within the current association who are well-qualified and capable of taking over the mantle to steer Ghana football toward a more successful path. While the GFA President has not yet officially responded to these specific comments, the call for resignation underscores the mounting pressure on the football governing body to deliver improved results and administrative reforms.
