The 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) preliminary stages have delivered a series of high-stakes contests as schools battle for a spot in the prestigious One-Eighth stage. In recent matchups, Holy Child School made a triumphant return to the national stage after a two-year hiatus, while Nsutaman Catholic SHS pulled off a dramatic comeback to keep their championship dreams alive. These results set the stage for a highly competitive tournament as the country's brightest minds prepare for the next phase of the intellectual competition.
Holy Child School's performance was particularly dominant, signaling their intent to reclaim their status among the quiz elite. Finishing with an impressive 67 points, the school outpaced Anlo SHS, who scored 52 points, and Nkawkaw SHS, who finished with 35. A highlight of the contest was the "Problem of the Day," where both Holy Child and Anlo SHS achieved perfect scores. This clinical performance in the Speed Race and subsequent rounds ensured Holy Child’s return to the national championship was marked with both style and substance.
In another gripping encounter, Nsutaman Catholic SHS staged a late-stage rally to overcome Serwaa Nyarko Girls and Hope College. Although Serwaa Nyarko Girls held an early lead, Nsutaman successfully clawed back in the final rounds to finish with 50 points. Serwaa Nyarko Girls followed with 41 points, while Hope College ended the contest with 37. Despite the win, the Nsutaman contestants remained humble, admitting that the match represented their "worst performance yet" and promising a much higher standard of play in the upcoming One-Eighth stage.
Organized by Primetime Limited, the NSMQ continues to be a cornerstone of academic excellence in Ghana, supported by the Ghana Education Service, Goil PLC, and other corporate partners. As the preliminary stages conclude, the focus shifts to the One-Eighth stage, where seeded schools will join the successful qualifiers. With schools like Holy Child demonstrating peak form and Nsutaman showing the resilience to win under pressure, the 2026 edition of the quiz promises to be one of the most unpredictable and exciting in recent memory.
