Indian authorities have issued a deportation order to Bollywood actor Imran Khan, an American citizen and nephew of superstar Aamir Khan, directing him to leave the country by October 28. The directive follows Khan’s participation in a recent public demonstration in Mumbai, which officials say breached the conditions of his residency status. As an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder, the actor is permitted to live and work in the country but is legally prohibited from engaging in political activities, including participating in protests or contesting elections.
The controversy stems from Khan's involvement in a protest held at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan. Organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), the demonstration sought comprehensive electoral reforms and the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Khan was briefly detained by police during the event, which was part of a broader nationwide movement fueled by allegations of voting irregularities. While the national poll panel has denied these claims, the protests have drawn thousands of participants and prominent opposition leaders across India.
This legal development comes at a significant moment in the actor's career, as he recently returned to the screen in the Netflix production Adhure Hum Adhure Tum. Despite the expulsion order, Khan has not yet issued a public statement regarding the notice or his future plans. Meanwhile, the CJP has indicated that it intends to continue its campaign for electoral changes with further demonstrations. The situation highlights the strict enforcement of OCI regulations regarding the political neutrality of foreign nationals residing in India.
