The International Prisons Chaplains Association (IPCA) Ghana has celebrated its 10th anniversary in Accra, marking a decade of dedicated service and spiritual support within the country’s correctional facilities. During the commemorative event, the organization was praised by the Ghana Prison Service for its significant contributions to inmate welfare and its role in bridging the gap between incarcerated individuals and the community. The Director General of the Ghana Prison Service, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, acknowledged the chaplains' commitment to fostering international collaboration and improving the standards of prison ministry.
The anniversary, themed "Breaking Chains, Building Hope – 10 years of transforming lives," served as a platform to highlight the tangible impact of the association’s work. A notable achievement mentioned during the proceedings was the association's recent donation of medical equipment valued at over $200,000. This contribution is part of a broader effort to support the health, education, and general welfare of inmates across Ghana. Members of IPCA from various countries participated in the celebration, reflecting the association's global reach and its focus on shared best practices in prison rehabilitation.
Rev. Steve Mensah, Chairman of IPCA-GH, expressed pride in the organization's growth over the past ten years. He emphasized that while the association remains focused on transforming the lives of those currently in prison, it has also expanded its outreach to include crime prevention education for students. This dual approach aims to reduce recidivism while discouraging young people from engaging in criminal activities. As the association looks forward to its next decade, it intends to deepen its partnerships with state institutions to ensure more comprehensive support for the reformation and reintegration of prisoners.
