On January 15, 2026, Lieutenant Colonel Jacqueline Dela Galley made history by becoming the first woman to command the Ghana Military Police (GMP). The ceremonial transfer of authority took place at the GMP Headquarters and included the traditional handover of the unit's mascot, the Badger Dog, from the outgoing commander, Lt. Col. Percy Odartey Lamptey. During the ceremony, Lamptey highlighted significant infrastructural improvements achieved during his tenure. Brigadier General Albert Assiamah praised Galley's appointment as both historic and well-deserved, emphasizing the GMP's crucial role in maintaining discipline and morale within the Ghana Armed Forces. This leadership transition is seen as a pivotal step towards gender inclusivity in military leadership roles in Ghana, marking progress in the ongoing efforts to mainstream gender within the defense sector.
