Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has formally petitioned the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, seeking urgent repairs for the deteriorating Weija Junction-to-Mallam section of the Cape Coast-Accra Highway. The MP highlighted that the critical stretch has become nearly impassable due to severe potholes, creating significant hardships for commuters and residents within the constituency and beyond. In his petition, Shaib detailed the extreme traffic congestion caused by the road's current state, noting that a journey that typically takes three minutes now frequently extends to over two hours. This delay not only affects daily economic activities but also poses a grave risk to public health and safety. The MP specifically pointed out that the poor road conditions have complicated access to essential services, making it difficult for ambulances and individuals to reach local health facilities in a timely manner. Beyond immediate patch-up work, the MP called for a comprehensive assessment of the stretch by the relevant authorities. He urged the Ministry to implement a long-term engineering solution that includes the construction of robust drainage systems and full resurfacing to prevent future deterioration. Shaib emphasized that immediate action and inspections are necessary to restore the functionality of this vital transit corridor, which serves as a major artery between the Central Region and the capital.
