KNUST Elects Historic Female SRC President as Ghana School of Law and Tertiary Business Challenge Reach Key Milestones

The Ghanaian tertiary education landscape has witnessed several landmark developments this week, headlined by the historic election of Jude Michelle Korleh Nortey as the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) President at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Nortey, a third-year Political Science student, secured a decisive victory with 10,435 votes, representing 56.71% of the valid votes cast. Her win marks a significant moment in the university's history as she becomes only the second woman to lead the student body. Succeeding Sharkir Is-Hak, Nortey emerged triumphant in a competitive field of eight candidates, defeating her closest rival by a margin of over 6,000 votes to take the mantle for the 2026/2027 academic year.

Simultaneously, the Ghana School of Law has announced a final, critical opportunity for aspiring legal professionals. The institution has opened a one-week administrative window, running from August 5 to August 11, 2026, to allow eligible applicants to finalize their admissions for the 2026/27 Pre-Bar Professional Law Course. This extension is specifically targeted at individuals who had previously completed their application forms and uploaded necessary documentation but failed to finalize the submission or settle required fees by the original deadline. The school authorities have emphasized that this is the absolute final chance for applicants to regularize their status, stating firmly that no further extensions will be granted beyond the August 11 cutoff.

In the realm of academic competition, the eighth edition of the Graphic Business Tertiary Sense Challenge (TBSC) has entered an intense phase with the conclusion of the South-East Zone quarter-finals. Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) and Pentecost University (PU) have both secured spots in the semi-finals after impressive performances. GCTU advanced by defeating Heritage Christian University with a score of 27 to 20, while Pentecost University overcame Valley View University in a closely contested match ending 43 to 38. The TBSC, which runs through August 2026, continues to serve as a vital platform for bridging the gap between theoretical classroom learning and practical industry knowledge.

These developments collectively reflect a period of high activity and transition within Ghana's higher education sector. As Nortey prepares to lead the student body at KNUST and legal hopefuls race against the clock at the Ghana School of Law, the ongoing TBSC competition underscores the growing emphasis on practical business acumen among the nation's youth. These events highlight the evolving standards of leadership, professional training, and academic excellence that are shaping the next generation of Ghanaian professionals and leaders as they prepare for the upcoming 2026/2027 academic cycle.
