Legendary Ghanaian musician Kojo Antwi, affectionately known as "Mr. Music Man," has officially launched his highly anticipated autobiography titled "From Bands to Ballads to Brilliance: Mr Music Man – The Journey." The launch event, held on February 13, 2026, at the prestigious Labadi Beach Hotel, served as a platform for the veteran singer to reflect on his storied career and personal struggles. Central to the celebration of his legacy was a harrowing revelation about the lengths he once went to in pursuit of his musical dreams abroad, highlighting the often-invisible challenges faced by African artists on the global stage.
During a promotional interview with Kafui Dey, Antwi shared a gripping anecdote about a perilous journey across European borders that is featured in his new book. The singer recounted a time when he had to hide in the boot of a car while traveling from Germany to Switzerland to evade strict immigration officials. Antwi and three other companions were forced to lie in the cramped space, concealed under heavy blankets to avoid detection. This dangerous experience underscored the desperation and determination that defined his early years as he sought to establish himself in the international music scene long before becoming a household name.
The autobiography provides a comprehensive look at the evolution of Ghanaian music through the lens of Antwi’s personal and professional experiences. From his early beginnings in various bands to his ascent as a solo balladeer, the book offers fans and historians a rare glimpse into the creative process of one of Africa's most influential artists. By detailing vulnerable moments like the border-crossing incident, Antwi humanizes the "Mr. Music Man" persona, bridging the gap between his legendary status and his humble, often difficult, beginnings.
The launch of "From Bands to Ballads to Brilliance" marks a significant milestone in Ghanaian cultural documentation. As one of the country's most enduring musical icons, Kojo Antwi’s decision to archive his life story ensures that future generations of musicians can learn from his path and the resilience required to succeed. The book is expected to serve not only as a memoir but also as a historical roadmap for navigating the complexities of the arts, migration, and identity. With this release, the "Maestro" continues to enrich the Ghanaian narrative, proving that his brilliance extends far beyond the melodies that have defined his career for decades.
