Residents of Lesseni, Kojobone, and Kabonwuli in the Kpandai District are celebrating a major milestone in public health and infrastructure following the completion of three mechanised water systems. This initiative, spearheaded by the District Assembly, aims to eliminate the long-standing reliance on unsafe water sources that has historically plagued these rural communities. By providing direct access to potable water, the project is expected to drastically reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases and improve the overall quality of life for thousands of residents.
The construction phase, which began in April and concluded in July, was executed by Koddeg Construction Ghana Limited. These systems represent a significant technological upgrade for the district, featuring modern mechanisation and a hybrid power source designed to ensure a consistent and reliable water supply even during power fluctuations. This focus on sustainability reflects a strategic shift toward more resilient rural infrastructure, ensuring that the investment provides long-term benefits rather than temporary relief.
District Chief Executive Haruna Abdul-Karim underscored the transformative potential of the project during its handover, emphasizing that the provision of safe drinking water is a fundamental requirement for both public health and local economic growth. According to Abdul-Karim, the Assembly’s investment is strategically aimed at enhancing sanitation standards and supporting essential sectors such as education and farming, which are the primary drivers of the district's economy.
For many years, the people of Lesseni, Kojobone, and Kabonwuli faced chronic water shortages, often traveling long distances to fetch water of questionable quality. With these new systems in place, the daily burden on women and children—who are typically responsible for water collection—is expected to diminish significantly, allowing for improved school attendance and increased economic productivity. This initiative marks a significant advancement in the Kpandai District’s broader development agenda, setting a precedent for future rural interventions across the region.
