Former Malawian President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has arrived in Accra to participate in the 10th Triennial Congress of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship. Accompanied by his wife, the former leader was received by a Ghanaian delegation led by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. The congress, which runs from October 14 to 16, 2026, marks a significant gathering of international religious leaders and congregants in the capital city.
The three-day event includes morning conferences and evening gospel revival rallies at the Accra Sports Stadium that are open to the general public. Upon his arrival, Dr. Chakwera expressed strong confidence in Ghana's ability to host the international event successfully. He noted his expectation for a significant spiritual revival, suggesting that the gathering would provide a platform for deep spiritual engagement and regional solidarity.
Speaking at the congress, Rev. Dominic Yeo, the Global Chair of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, highlighted Africa's evolving role in global missionary work. He observed a notable shift from the Global North to the Global South, explaining that Africa is increasingly raising and dispatching missionaries to all corners of the world. Rev. Yeo emphasized the historical and prophetic significance of hosting the congress in Ghana, calling on the church to seek a divine movement comparable to historical revivals like the Azusa Street Revival.
The 10th Triennial Congress aims to shape the future direction of the global fellowship and its missionary strategies. By bringing together diverse perspectives from the Global South and beyond, organizers hope to inspire a new era of leadership and evangelism. The event concludes on October 16, with the expectation that its resolutions will influence the denomination's activities for the next triennium.
