President John Mahama hosted the Executive Committee of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship at Jubilee House in Accra, as the church prepares to hold its 10th Triennial World Congress. The delegation, led by Global Chairman Reverend Dominic Yeo and General Superintendent Reverend Stephen Wengam, visited to brief the President on preparations for the historic gathering. This marks the first time in the fellowship's 115-year history that the World Congress is being hosted on African soil.
During the meeting, the leadership provided updates on logistical arrangements for the event, which is scheduled to take place from October 14 to 16. Reverend Wengam noted that while evening gospel revival rallies will be held at the Accra Sports Stadium, the morning conference sessions have been moved to the Grand Arena at the Accra International Conference Centre due to technical and logistical considerations. Reverend Yeo commended Ghana for its pioneering role in hosting the event, drawing parallels between the congress and Ghana’s historical significance as a leader in African independence.
President Mahama, a member of the Assemblies of God, expressed his pride in the denomination and affirmed the government’s support for the upcoming congress. He remarked that he has no regrets about his membership in the church, describing it as a vital community that has provided him with significant support. To facilitate the arrival of international delegates, the President assured the delegation that the government has implemented measures to assist with visa processes and other entry requirements, expressing confidence that Ghana will deliver a successful event.
The visiting executives praised the President’s leadership and encouraged him to continue reflecting his Christian values in his governance. Reverend Yeo specifically highlighted the government's initiatives aimed at maintaining economic stability. The courtesy call concluded with the presentation of official congress souvenirs to the President and a session of prayers offered for the President's leadership and the continued peace and prosperity of the nation.
