President John Dramani Mahama has committed to upgrading an overloaded power substation to provide the Bright International Industrial Zone with a stable electricity supply within three weeks. Speaking during a visit to the industrial complex, the President emphasized that reliable power is essential for boosting industrial production and sustaining the growth of the manufacturing sector. This intervention is intended to resolve current operational disruptions and ensure that businesses within the zone can operate at full capacity without the threat of frequent power outages. During his tour of the facilities, President Mahama observed the significant expansion of manufacturing plants and specifically noted the high participation of women in the workforce, particularly within the textile and garment sectors. To support this industrial momentum, the President announced that the government will invest $2 billion annually into job-rich sectors through the New Economy Programme. This initiative is designed to target critical areas such as agriculture, agro-processing, and renewable energy to create sustainable employment opportunities and modernize the nation's economic landscape. The visit also featured the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Afienya Industrial Park, a project aimed at providing modern infrastructure and facilities for upcoming industries. President Mahama highlighted that these developments are part of a broader strategy to position Ghana as a manufacturing hub. He pledged that the government would actively assist local manufacturers in leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to access regional markets, ensuring that Ghanaian-made products can compete effectively across the continent.
