President Mahama and Gabon’s Brice Nguema Strengthen 60-Year Ties with New Accords on Trade, Security, and African Unity

President John Mahama and Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema have reaffirmed the long-standing diplomatic relationship between Ghana and Gabon during a high-profile state visit to Accra. Meeting at the Jubilee House, the two leaders celebrated over six decades of bilateral ties while committing to a modernized partnership aimed at addressing contemporary regional challenges. The visit was marked by the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) designed to deepen cooperation in critical sectors including transport, health, and education, signaling a shift toward more integrated economic and social development between West and Central Africa.

Beyond institutional agreements, the discussions focused heavily on sustainable resource management and regional stability. President Mahama and President Nguema explored collaborative strategies for climate action, leveraging Gabon’s expertise in forest conservation and Ghana’s sustainable development initiatives. In a significant joint statement on continental cohesion, both presidents issued a stern call for African nations to unite against xenophobia and discrimination. They argued that such hostilities undermine the spirit of Pan-Africanism and hinder the progress of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
