President John Dramani Mahama has officially opened the 10th Triennial World Assemblies of God Congress in Accra, marking a historic milestone as the first time the global event has been held on African soil in 115 years. Addressing over 10,000 delegates from approximately 100 countries at the Accra International Conference Centre, the President emphasized the theme "Commissioned: One Mandate, Every Nation." He was joined by high-profile guests, including former Malawian President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, who attended as a Special Guest of Honour to witness the fellowship's strengthening of international Christian missions.
A central theme of the President’s address was the vital importance of religious diversity and his commitment to serving all citizens impartially. Reaffirming his constitutional oath, President Mahama stated that his duty is to every Ghanaian, regardless of their religious affiliation. He acknowledged that while his inclusive approach might occasionally be questioned by some, he believes that fostering respect and peaceful coexistence across religious divides is essential for national unity and social justice. He urged the church to remain a voice for the marginalized and a promoter of honesty and compassion.
Addressing contemporary social challenges, the President called on church leaders and households to prioritize the mentorship of the younger generation. He noted that today’s youth face unprecedented pressures from misinformation and social media, requiring guidance from trusted adults to help them navigate a rapidly changing world. Furthermore, President Mahama advocated for the greater recognition of women’s contributions within both the church and the wider society, highlighting their wisdom and service as crucial components of effective nation-building.
President Mahama, himself a member of the Assemblies of God, also challenged Christians in public office to let their faith manifest through humility, integrity, and practical service. He urged the fellowship to translate the energy of spiritual worship into actionable community support for schools and health ministries. During the event, the President was honored with the Global Leadership Excellence and Trailblazer Award, recognizing his distinguished leadership and his unique position within the global faith community.
