Manchester City Weighs Legal Action Against Real Madrid Presidential Hopeful Over Erling Haaland Transfer Claims

Manchester City is reportedly exploring legal options against Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme following controversial claims regarding the future of star striker Erling Haaland. The Premier League champions are reacting to public assertions made by Riquelme during his campaign for the Real Madrid presidency, where he suggested a deal to bring the Norwegian international to the Santiago Bernabéu was a distinct possibility. This development has introduced significant legal and diplomatic tension between the two European football giants as the Spanish club approaches a critical leadership transition.

The dispute centers on Riquelme’s campaign tactics, which recently included showcasing a Real Madrid jersey emblazoned with Haaland’s name. The candidate claimed that Haaland possesses a specific release clause and has expressed a personal desire to join the Spanish side. These assertions were swiftly and firmly rejected by both Haaland’s father and his official representatives. Manchester City has since issued a formal statement dismissing the rumors as categorically untrue and signaled their intent to pursue a lawsuit, citing the unauthorized and misleading use of their player’s image for political gain.

Beyond the pursuit of Haaland, Riquelme has also identified Manchester City’s midfield anchor, Rodri, as a primary target, describing the Spanish international as a vital addition to his vision for Real Madrid. This aggressive recruitment rhetoric is a cornerstone of Riquelme's strategy to unseat long-standing president Florentino Perez. With the election scheduled for June 7, approximately 100,000 voting members of the club are being presented with a campaign focused on high-profile signings and ambitious squad rejuvenation, despite the legal friction these promises have caused with current clubs.

As the threat of litigation looms, the incident highlights the often-volatile intersection of football politics and transfer market speculation. For Manchester City, protecting the contractual integrity and brand value of their top assets remains a priority. Meanwhile, for Real Madrid, the outcome of the June elections will dictate whether these aggressive transfer links materialize into formal negotiations or remain as campaign rhetoric that has strained relations with one of England's most powerful clubs.
