The Marine Police unit of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a 31-year-old man, Vincent Lotsu, for allegedly operating a cannabis plantation in Mangoase, located within the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region. The arrest took place on October 13, 2026, during a routine patrol along the Volta Lake. This intervention is part of a broader mandate to ensure the security of Ghana's waterways and to prevent the use of remote lakefront properties for illegal agricultural activities.
During the surveillance operation, officers identified a cultivation site and moved in to inspect the area. They discovered and seized 16 sacks of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp. Mr. Lotsu was apprehended at the scene for his involvement in the plantation and found in possession of the bulk narcotics. The police have emphasized that such routine patrols are vital for detecting and dismantling illicit operations in hard-to-reach areas along the lake.
The suspect has been formally charged with the unlawful cultivation and possession of narcotic substances. The Kpando Police Divisional Investigation Department is currently managing the case and conducting a full inquiry into the scale of the operation. Meanwhile, the confiscated substances have been forwarded for forensic examination to confirm their chemical properties. The authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to prosecuting drug-related offenses as part of their national security and public health strategy.
