Mike Ezuruonye urges corporate Ghana to support filmmaker LilWin

Wayoosi cautions LilWin following GH₵10m Van Vicker lawsuit

Kumawood actor Wayoosi has issued a stern warning to his colleague Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, urging him to exercise greater restraint in his public utterances. This advice comes in the wake of a GH₵10 million defamation lawsuit filed against LilWin by fellow actor Van Vicker. Wayoosi expressed concern that the actor's frequent legal entanglements are becoming excessive and could cause significant damage to his professional reputation and financial standing. Speaking on the matter, Wayoosi emphasized that the way information is communicated can vary significantly across different regions and cultures within Ghana. He noted that what might be considered acceptable or harmless banter in some settings can be deeply offensive to others, leading to serious legal repercussions. Wayoosi’s call for more mindful communication highlights a growing concern within the Ghanaian film industry regarding the public conduct of its stars on social media and in media interviews. The lawsuit from Van Vicker is not the only legal challenge LilWin is currently facing. It follows a separate, high-profile defamation case brought against him by actress Martha Ankomah. These mounting legal pressures have prompted peers like Wayoosi to speak out, suggesting that the actor needs to re-evaluate his approach to public discourse. The GH₵10 million figure involved in the Van Vicker suit underscores the high stakes of these legal battles within the entertainment sector. As the Kumawood and broader Ghanaian entertainment industry watch these cases unfold, the situation serves as a cautionary tale for celebrities about the lasting impact of their public statements. While LilWin has yet to issue a formal response to Wayoosi's public advice, industry observers are focused on how these legal disputes will be resolved in court. The outcome of the Van Vicker suit could set a significant precedent for defamation awards within the local creative arts industry.
