Monrovia, Liberia, is set to host the FIBA Africa Zone 3 qualifiers for the African Women’s Basketball League (AWBL) from November 2 to 9, 2026. This sub-regional tournament serves as the primary qualification pathway for the continental championship, with six elite clubs competing for just two available spots in the finals. The successful teams will advance to the AWBL continental finals, which are scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt, in December 2026.
The competition will feature a strong lineup of regional basketball powerhouses, with participating clubs coming from Ghana, Nigeria, and Côte d'Ivoire. Among the prominent teams confirmed for the qualifiers are the defending champions, Friends of Basketball Association from Côte d'Ivoire, alongside Nigerian contenders Mountain of Fire Ministries and First Bank Basketball Club. Host nation Liberia will be represented by two local clubs, Flames Basketball Club and D’Rockers Basketball Club, as they seek to secure a place on the continental stage.
The Liberia Basketball Association and the local Organizing Committee have already commenced preparations to ensure the international event meets required standards. Efforts are currently focused on logistical arrangements and facility readiness to accommodate the visiting delegations. As the tournament approaches, the various participating clubs have reportedly begun bolstering their rosters and intensifying training regimes to prepare for the high-stakes competition in the Liberian capital.
