Mr. Beautiful Accuses Lands Commission of Sabotaging President Mahama’s Housing Initiative for Veteran Entertainers

Ghanaian actor and activist Mr. Beautiful has publicly accused the Acting Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission, Professor Anthony Owusu-Ansah, of deliberately obstructing a directive from President John Mahama intended to benefit the nation’s aging entertainers. Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz on October 3, 2026, the actor revealed that the President had issued specific instructions for land to be allocated for the construction of two- and three-bedroom homes for elderly Ghanaian entertainers who currently lack adequate housing. According to Mr. Beautiful, these efforts are being systematically frustrated by administrative bottlenecks at the Commission, preventing the realization of a key social intervention for the creative arts sector. The allegations center on the claim that despite the Presidency's clear mandate to support veteran performers who have fallen on hard times, the leadership at the Lands Commission has failed to facilitate the necessary land transfers. Mr. Beautiful expressed frustration over the delay, suggesting that the resistance from Professor Owusu-Ansah’s office undermines the government's commitment to the welfare of those who have dedicated their lives to Ghanaian culture. This housing project was envisioned as a permanent solution to the perennial problem of housing insecurity and indigence among retired actors and musicians, many of whom struggle in their twilight years. This recent advocacy comes alongside Mr. Beautiful’s continued defense of his personal integrity regarding the management of funds for veteran colleagues in the past. The actor recently addressed allegations concerning a GH₵2,000 donation intended for the medical expenses of veteran actress Adjoa Pee. He categorically denied claims that he had misappropriated any portion of the funds, asserting that he personally delivered the full amount to her while she was hospitalized. Citing his history of being entrusted with significantly larger sums for similar charitable causes without incident, he emphasized that his actions have always been guided by a genuine desire to assist his peers, despite the personal friction that eventually led him to cease communication with the actress. The intersection of these issues highlights the complex and often precarious nature of welfare support within Ghana’s entertainment industry. While Mr. Beautiful remains a vocal proponent for state-led initiatives like President Mahama’s housing scheme, his experiences also reflect the personal challenges and scrutiny faced by those who bridge the gap between the government and the creative community. As the stalemate with the Lands Commission continues, the fate of the proposed housing project remains uncertain, leaving many of the country’s most celebrated cultural icons waiting for the security and dignity promised by the executive directive.
