Nalerigu SHS and Abomosu STEM Secure National Spots as 2026 NSMQ and Tertiary Business Challenges Heat Up

National momentum for academic excellence is building across Ghana as the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) and the Graphic Business Tertiary Sense Challenge move into critical stages. With the NSMQ national championships approaching, 157 schools are vying for glory, with 27 schools already seeded for the national stage. The competition, which celebrates science, mathematics, and technology, is set for a formal launch and balloting ceremony on August 13, 2026, ahead of the preliminary rounds scheduled to run from August 20 to August 24, 2026.

Recent regional qualifiers have delivered high-stakes drama, particularly in the North East and Eastern Regions. Nalerigu Senior High School secured its return to the national stage after a three-year hiatus by defeating the reigning champions, Bunkpurugu Senior High School. The two schools ended the regular rounds tied at 33 points, but Nalerigu triumphed in a tense tie-breaker to end Bunkpurugu's reign. Similarly, in the Eastern Region, Abomosu STEM Senior High School clinched the final regional slot after a fierce battle with Ghana Senior High School (Koforidua) and Mamfe Methodist Girls’ SHS, eventually prevailing in a tie-breaker after leading through much of the contest and finishing the third round with 43 points.

The competitive spirit extends to the tertiary level, where the eighth edition of the Graphic Business Tertiary Sense Challenge is currently underway. In the South-East Zone, Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) and Pentecost University (PU) have advanced to the semi-finals following impressive quarter-final victories. GCTU overcame Heritage Christian University with a score of 27 to 20, while Pentecost University secured a 43 to 38 win over Valley View University. This competition, which runs from June to August 2026, serves as a vital bridge between academic theory and practical business knowledge, strengthening the links between academia and industry.

Looking ahead, the 2026 NSMQ knockout phases will pave the way for a grand finale on September 10, 2026. These competitions continue to play a pivotal role in fostering intellectual growth and school pride among Ghanaian students at both the secondary and tertiary levels. As institutions prepare for the next rounds of these prestigious tournaments, the focus remains on equipping the next generation of leaders with the analytical, scientific, and business skills necessary to navigate a modern economy.
