The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has successfully installed and commissioned a new 200 kVA transformer in Saasigli, a community within the Yendi Municipality. This crucial infrastructure replacement marks the end of a prolonged power outage that had affected residents and businesses in the area for several weeks. The new equipment replaces a faulty unit that had disrupted the local grid, restoring stable electricity to Saasigli and its immediate environs.
The power disruption, which began in mid-September, had caused significant inconvenience to the community. NEDCo’s Communications Manager, Mr. Maxwell Kotoka, highlighted the technical challenges faced during the restoration process, particularly the impact of heavy rainfall on the installation site. He commended the local residents for their proactive efforts in making the site accessible for the engineering teams, which allowed for the successful installation of the 200 kVA unit. Kotoka reaffirmed the utility provider's dedication to maintaining and improving the reliability of the power supply across its operational areas.
Local leadership also acknowledged the resolution of the power crisis. The Member of Parliament for the area, Mr. Abdul-Fatawu Alhassan, confirmed that the intervention has effectively ended the disruptions that plagued the municipality. Looking ahead, the MP announced that the infrastructure improvement in Saasigli is part of a broader electrification effort. He indicated that plans are currently underway to extend electricity services to several more nearby communities before the end of October, aiming to further bridge the energy gap in the Yendi Municipality.
