Norway’s King Harald V Hospitalized for Rare Blood Condition; Crown Prince Haakon Named Regent

King Harald V of Norway, the 89-year-old monarch and one of Europe’s longest-serving heads of state, has been admitted to the hospital for medical treatment following a medical examination. The Royal Court announced that the King will be on sick leave for an initial period of two weeks to undergo specialized care for ongoing health issues. During this interval, Crown Prince Haakon will assume the responsibilities of the throne as regent, ensuring the continuity of the monarchy's constitutional duties while his father recovers.

The hospitalization is primarily due to complications arising from haemolytic anaemia, a rare blood condition characterized by the premature destruction of red blood cells.
