Osino Presby SHTS and Chemu SHTS Secure Dramatic Comeback Victories to Advance in NSMQ 2026

The preliminary stages of the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) have delivered intense competition and late-stage drama, as Osino Presby SHTS and Chemu SHTS both staged remarkable comebacks to secure their places in the One-Eighth stage. Both contests saw initial leaders lose their footing in the final rounds, highlighting the high-pressure environment of the national competition. While Osino Presby capitalized on a late-round surge to overtake their opponents, Chemu SHTS required a nail-biting tiebreaker to claim their victory in one of the most closely contested matches of the preliminary series.

In a heartbreaking turn of events for Aggrey Memorial SHS, the school saw its early dominance evaporate during the final rounds of their contest against Osino Presby SHTS. Aggrey Memorial held a steady lead throughout the first three rounds, opening with a 21-19 lead and extending it to 34-29 by the end of Round Three. However, a poor showing in the True or False round allowed Osino Presby to seize the momentum. Osino Presby executed a clinical finish to end the contest with 51 points, surpassing Aggrey Memorial’s 46 points and snatching the final qualification ticket for that session.

The drama continued in another preliminary clash where Chemu SHTS faced off against Saviour SHS and Wallahs Academy. Similar to the Aggrey Memorial contest, Saviour SHS led for much of the competition, but Chemu SHTS refused to back down. In a rare display of academic excellence, all three competing schools achieved a perfect score in the 'Problem of the Day,' earning each institution a GH₵2,000 prize. By the end of the final round, Chemu SHTS and Saviour SHS were deadlocked at 50 points each, forcing a tiebreaker. Chemu SHTS demonstrated superior speed and accuracy in the tiebreaker round to clinch the win and the automatic One-Eighth stage ticket.

While Osino Presby SHTS and Chemu SHTS celebrate their advancement, the road has not necessarily ended for all the runners-up. Saviour SHS, despite their tiebreaker loss, remains hopeful of advancing as one of the highest-scoring losing schools, depending on the results of the remaining preliminary contests. The NSMQ, produced by Primetime Limited, continues to serve as a premier platform for academic excellence in Ghana, with these latest results setting a high bar for the intensity expected in the upcoming knockout stages.
