The second edition of the Rugby League Diva Series concluded on August 29, 2026, at the Accra Girls Senior High School, where nearly 50 young female athletes gathered for a day of skill-building and competitive Touch Rugby League. Old Guard emerged as the standout team of the August round, securing three victories and claiming the top spot for the month. The initiative continues to serve as a vital developmental platform, designed to inspire and empower young women through the values of sport, specifically focusing on teamwork, discipline, and personal confidence.
The competition saw four primary teams—Old Guard, Presbyterian Senior High School (LaPRESEC), Next Gen, and Accra Girls Senior High School—battle for series points. Old Guard’s dominant performance earned them 10 points for the round, followed closely by LaPRESEC with 8 points. Next Gen and Accra Girls finished the round with 6 and 4 points, respectively. These results have dramatically tightened the overall leaderboard, leaving Old Guard, LaPRESEC, and Next Gen in a three-way tie for the series lead with 16 points each, setting the stage for a highly competitive final stretch.
Beyond the scores, the Diva Series emphasizes player development through a blend of technical training sessions and match play. Organizers highlighted that the program is structured to foster leadership and responsibility among the participants, providing a supportive environment for girls to grow both as athletes and individuals. The event at Accra Girls SHS showcased a significant improvement in the technical proficiency of the players compared to the inaugural edition, reflecting the success of the ongoing coaching interventions.
As the race for the title intensifies, the series is scheduled to return for its third edition on September 26, 2026, at the same venue. With the top three teams currently inseparable in the overall standings, the upcoming round is expected to be a decisive moment for the athletes. The continued growth of the Diva Series signals a promising future for women’s rugby league in Ghana, as the sport gains traction among high school-aged participants and builds a foundation for national development.
