Port City Secures Decisive Win as Dreams FC and Hearts of Oak Split Points in Week 5 GPL Action

Week 5 of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season delivered a mix of clinical finishing and defensive stalemates, highlighted by a dominant performance from Port City and a hard-fought draw between Dreams FC and Accra Hearts of Oak. As the league table begins to take shape, Port City successfully bounced back from recent setbacks, while other clubs continue to search for their first victories of the campaign. The results highlight the growing intensity of the competition as both established giants and newly promoted sides vie for dominance.

At the Daasebre Boamah Darko II Park, Port City delivered a statement performance with a 3-1 victory over Bechem United. The home side, eager to move past a midweek defeat to defending champions Medeama SC, took charge early in the contest. Captain Hamza Zakari provided the crucial breakthrough in the 18th minute, finding the back of the net to set an aggressive tone for the match. Port City maintained their composure and clinical edge throughout the game, ultimately securing three points to bolster their momentum following their previous loss.

In contrast, the encounter at the University of Ghana Stadium on Saturday ended in a tactical deadlock as Dreams FC and Hearts of Oak played out a 0-0 draw. Despite the lack of goals, the match was characterized by a balanced exchange of possession and scoring opportunities. For Dreams FC, the result was bittersweet; while the team displayed a marked improvement in their technical play and organization compared to previous outings, they remain on the hunt for their first win of the season. Hearts of Oak will look to find more offensive fluidity in their upcoming fixtures after failing to break the Dreams FC defense.

The Week 5 action concludes with a highly anticipated clash at the Debibi Presby Park, where newly promoted Debibi United FC hosts the defending champions, Medeama SC. Debibi United enters the match seeking stability after a mixed start to their top-flight journey, having recorded one win, one draw, and two losses in their opening four matches. Following a narrow 2-1 defeat to fellow newcomers FC Ashanti Gold ’04, the hosts face a daunting task against a Medeama side that remains the benchmark for the league. This fixture will serve as a significant test for Debibi's resilience and Medeama's title-retention credentials.
