Ghanaian Hiplife legend Reggie Rockstone, widely celebrated as the pioneer of the genre, has revealed that he lost his personal vehicle to the devastating floods that swept through Accra on June 29, 2026. The "Grandpapa" of Hiplife shared the news via his social media platforms, highlighting the significant impact the torrential rains have had on his daily life and mobility within the capital city. The incident underscores the recurring vulnerability of residents in the Greater Accra Region to seasonal weather patterns.
In a detailed video posted to his Instagram account, Rockstone showcased the damage to his Toyota Corolla S, stating bluntly that "the floods killed it." The visual evidence provided by the musician underscored the intensity of the weather event that struck the city on that Monday. He explained that the vehicle's mechanics and interior were severely compromised by the rising waters, rendering it unusable and adding him to the long list of property owners who suffered losses during the downpour.
As a result of the loss, the veteran entertainer shared that he has been forced to rely on ride-hailing services to navigate the city. Despite the setback, Rockstone appeared to handle the situation with his signature resilience, though the incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent infrastructure challenges facing the city. His transition to using commercial transport services has garnered sympathy and support from his fan base, many of whom have used the opportunity to call for improved drainage systems in the region.
The loss of Rockstone's car is part of a broader pattern of flood-related damage that continues to plague Accra during the rainy season. By speaking out, the musician has inadvertently brought renewed attention to the recurring environmental and urban planning issues that affect both high-profile figures and ordinary citizens alike. His experience emphasizes the urgent need for long-term government intervention to prevent further property destruction and ensure the safety of residents during heavy rainfall.
