The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Ghana in the ongoing fight against cybercrime. During a formal meeting with the Director-General of the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), Dr. Divine Selase Agbeti, the US Chargé d’Affaires Rolf Olson expressed deep appreciation for the existing partnership between the two nations. The engagement focused on harmonising strategies to secure Ghana’s digital landscape and deepening ties in law enforcement and technical cybersecurity coordination.
Mr. Olson emphasised that effective communication and seamless coordination are the cornerstones of successful international efforts to dismantle criminal networks. He noted that the US remains dedicated to providing the necessary support to ensure that digital criminals are unable to exploit Ghana's growing technological infrastructure. This collaboration is designed to enhance the CSA’s capacity to detect and mitigate threats that transcend national borders, ensuring a safer online environment for both businesses and individuals.
Responding to the US pledge, Dr. Divine Selase Agbeti highlighted the strategic importance of this partnership under the current administration. He noted that President John Mahama is firmly dedicated to the fight against cybercrime, viewing it as a critical pillar of national security and economic stability. Dr. Agbeti reiterated that the government’s primary objective is to prevent Ghana from becoming a safe haven for digital criminals, a goal that requires robust international alliances and the adoption of global best practices.
The partnership is expected to facilitate better intelligence sharing and provide specialized training for Ghanaian law enforcement officers. As the country continues to expand its digital economy, officials believe that these strengthened ties with the United States will provide the necessary safeguards to protect sensitive data and critical national infrastructure. The meeting concludes a series of high-level discussions aimed at ensuring Ghana remains a leader in cybersecurity within the West African sub-region.
